Welcome to Peace Love Hormones, AKA The Modern Woman's Apothecary!

Supporting breast milk production postpartum isn’t about quick fixes or trendy lactation cookies, but deep, consistent nourishment during one of the most physiologically demanding seasons of a woman’s life. As a clinical herbalist in the final days of pregnancy, I’ve been intentionally preparing foods and herbal remedies that support labor energy, postpartum recovery, and breastfeeding in a way that works with the body’s natural physiology. These herbal lactation oatmeal balls are one of those preparations. They combine foundational lactation-supportive foods like oats, ghee, and flax which provide steady energy, blood sugar balance, and the raw materials milk is made from, along with traditional galactagogue herbs such as shatavari and fennel, long used to support milk production and milk flow. Rather than forcing supply, this recipe is designed to gently support lactation through nourishment, digestion, hormonal balance, and tissue support, making it an ideal daily postpartum snack for breastfeeding mothers (we need endless snacks!).

In the months ahead, I’ll be releasing a dedicated postpartum herbal formula designed to offer deeper, more targeted support for recovery and breastfeeding. In the meantime, you can explore our current selection of organic herbal tinctures, which are thoughtfully formulated to support women through hormone balance, digestion, sleep, and overall well-being. Meet the tinctures below!

Ingredients

Dry ingredients

  • 3 cups organic rolled oats

  • 1/4 cup ground flaxseed

  • 2 teaspoons shatavari powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon fennel seed, freshly ground

  • 1 teaspoon Ceylon cinnamon

  • 1/4 teaspoon high-quality sea salt

Wet ingredients

  • 2/3 cup organic honey

  • 2/3 cup almond butter, peanut butter, or sunflower seed butter (your pick!)

  • 1/4 cup melted ghee

  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Directions

Step 1:

In a large bowl, combine all dry ingredients, mixing thoroughly so the ground shatavari, ground fennel, cinnamon, and flaxseed are evenly distributed.

Step 2:

In a separate bowl, whisk together the honey, nut or seed butter, melted ghee, and vanilla until smooth.

Step 3:

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until a soft, cohesive dough forms.

Refrigerate the mixture for 15–20 minutes to firm slightly.

Roll into bite-sized balls using lightly damp hands.
