Welcome to Peace Love Hormones, AKA The Modern Woman's Apothecary!

In these final weeks of pregnancy, everything I make is in service of birth and recovery. This rose belly oil was created using fresh rose petals from my baby shower...petals that were sprinkled in a mother’s blessing, carrying prayers, love, and strength for both me and my baby. What began as a ritual became a nourishing oil for my growing belly, and a reminder that care can be both deeply practical and deeply emotional.

If you are unsure whether this oil is appropriate for you, or if you experience unusually heavy, prolonged, or painful periods, it is always best to consult with a qualified healthcare provider or clinical herbalist before use.

Ready to make your own? Let’s dive into the recipe.

Ingredients

Ingredients

  • 2 cups wilted rose petals
  • ⅔ cup jojoba oil
  • ⅓ cup sweet almond oil

Tools

  • Double boiler (or heat-safe bowl over saucepan)
  • Spatula
  • Cheesecloth and a fine strainer
  • Clean glass bottle or jar for storage
  • Optional: ½ tsp vitamin E oil

Directions

Step 1: Prepare the petals

Petals should be air-dried indoors on parchment for 24 hours

• Ready when:

• Dry to the touch

• Soft and flexible

• Not cool

• Sweet-smelling

Step 2: Set up the double broiler

  • Fill the bottom pot with a few inches of water.

  • Find a heat-safe glass bowl or smaller pot to place on top once ready (but not yet!).

  • Heat on low until steaming, not boiling.

Step 3: Add petals and oils

To the top bowl or pot, add:

  • The dried rose petals

Then pour in:

  • ⅔ cup jojoba
  • ⅓ cup sweet almond

Stir gently to fully coat the petals.

Step 4: Infuse for 2 hours

  • Place the bowl or pot of herbs + oil on top of the base pot.

  • Loosely cover the top pot or bowl with a lid slightly ajar to allow moisture to escape.

  • Keep the heat LOW.

  • The oil should be warm to the touch but never sizzling or bubbling (this protects herbal constituents + prevents rancidity).

  • Stir occasionally.

Step 5: Cool and Strain

  • Remove from heat and let cool completely.
  • Strain through cheesecloth. Optionally, layer the cheesecloth on top of a mesh strainer.
  • Gently squeeze petals.
  • Add vitamin E if using.

Step 6: Bottle

  • Place a funnel into a dark glass bottle.

  • Pour your rose oil in.

  • Cap tightly and label.

Store in a cool, dark place.

💛 How to Use:

  • Apply daily after showering on damp skin.
  • Massage belly, hips, thighs, breasts.
  • Let this be slow and intentional... it’s medicinal and ceremonial!

Shelf life:

~4 months cool & dark

• Longer if refrigerated
